Standard

There are various standards that are used for governing the production of stainless steel. Some of the most prominent ones include ASTM A240, JIS G4304, G4305, GB/T 4237, GB/T 8165, BS 1449, DIN17460, DIN 17441, and EN10088-2. These standards play a vital role in ensuring that the stainless steel produced is of high quality and meets the required specifications. They provide guidelines for various aspects of production, including composition, tolerances, surface finish, and mechanical properties. Therefore, it is important for manufacturers to adhere to these standards to ensure that their stainless steel products are of high quality and meet the required industry standards.

Fabrications of 316 Stainless Steel

Cold Forming of 316 Stainless Steel

AISI316L / EN 1.4404 stainless steel can be readily formed and processed using a full range of cold forming operations. It can be used in heading, drawing, bending. Any cold forming operations will increase the strength and hardness of the material.

Hardening of 316 Stainless Steel

AISI316 / EN 1.4404 stainless steel can be hardened by heat treatment. However, it can be hardened by cold forming.

Hot Forming of 316 Stainless Steel

Hot forming can be carried out in the 850℃ ~ 1150℃ range. For maximum corrosion resistance, forgings should be annealed at 1070℃ and rapidly cooled in the air or water after hot forming operatins.

Annealing of 316 Stainless Steel

Quench annealing should be performed at 1030℃ to 1110℃ and followed by rapid cooling in water or air. In applications where high residual stresses cannot be accepted, stress relief treatment may be necessary.

Machining of 316 Stainless Steel

AISI316L / EN 1.4404 stainless steel is more difficult to machine than ordinary carbon steels but are still comparatively easier than more highly alloyed stainless grades. 316L stainless steel requires higher cutting forces than carbon steels, and it shows resistance to chip breaking, and a high tendency to built-up edge formation.

Welding of 316 Stainless Steel

AISI316 / EN 1.4404 stainless steel has excellent weldability and it is suitable for the full range of conventional welding methods, such as MMA, MIG, MAG, TIG, SAW, LBW, or RSW, except gas welding. In order to fully restore the corrosion resistance of weld seam, the weld discoloration should be removed by pickling and passivation.
